Battle of Dayet in Maharat

On the evening of April 16, 2014, the French Destroyed two pickup trucks jihadist north of Timbuktu. They then engage in a transaction with airmobile and terrestrial means to intercept vehicles.
During the night of 16 to 17, the French special forces, backed by troops from Operation Serval and helicopters come in contact with the Islamists. The French begin with carry warning shots, but the jihadists refused to surrender and opened fire. Faced with the advance of the French military, however, they abandon their vehicles and ran, suffering more losses.
According to the French Ministry of Defense "part of the terrorist group" is "neutralized. During the confrontation, the French humanitarian issue five, including four members of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), a veterinarian, another humanitarian organization. Abandon their jihadist prisoners in vehicles at the beginning of the fight. The former hostages were then exfiltrated by the French military. Those released were Malians, four Tuaregs. On the evening of April 17, in a joint statement, the French president and the president of Mali, announce the release of five hostages. The ICRC also plublie a statement in which he welcomed the release and said that two humanitarian minor injuries but their life is not in danger.
Aid had been kidnapped Feb. 8, 2014, when their vehicle was stopped south of Anéfif on the road to Gao Kidal. 11, removal was claimed by Abdoulsalam Yoro, a leader of MUJAO8. However, according to RFI, after the release of the hostages, "several sources qualified this claim, favoring an action of a group of individuals rather than an identified terrorist group.
